Vitamin E Supplementation Prevents Heart Disease and Stroke

Vitamin E Supplementation Prevents Heart Disease and Stroke:

When it is time for the annual health check up one should check with their healthcare provider and find out the vitamin E level.

Vitamin E protects against cardiovascular disease and stroke by reducing oxidative deterioration of LDL cholesterol while improving plasma LDL breakdown; retarding excessive platelet aggregation; increasing HDL cholesterol levels.

Several studies (K.F. Gey et al 1991, M.J. Stampfer et al 1993, M.C. Belizzi et al 1994) have shown that Vitamin E Levels are more predictive of developing a heart attack or stroke than total cholesterol levels.

One of them showed that High Cholesterol was predictive of a heart attack 29% of the time, high blood pressure 25% of the time and here comes the kicker, vitamin E deficiency or low levels of it were predictive of a heart attack almost 70% of the time!

Another study looked at 87,245 nurses with the conclusion that nurses who took 100 IU of vitamin E daily for more than 2 years had a 41% (forty-one-percent) less risk for heart disease than nurses who didn't take any Vitamin E supplements.(1)

I can't stress enough the connection between a great diet and the prevention of disease. Of course a great diet is hard to come by, so supplementation is the next best thing. Listen to the Chef, key word is supplementation, not replacement. A healthy diet should be enhanced with vitamins and minerals and one should not replace the other. Supplements and bad eating habits still make bad eating habits. Simply going for the quick fix (pill) won't work.

Beste Gesundheit,

Werner
