How the Mind and Body Communicate (part XXIV)

Implications for Stress Management and Optimal Wellness

The topics we have covered and the research we examined so far, the following themes contributing to health become apparent.

1. Written Oral Expression,
2. Group support,
3. Entrainment music that changes the mood from negative to a more positive one,
4. Some Entrainment with generous doses of laughter,

All the above have lasting implications on overall health and well being. A person feeling in control of his/ her life and well being combined with a sense of purpose are also very critical to overall health and well being.

In order to make a decision on what formula should be used a person can start by evaluating his/ her life, take control and start managing his or her stress. The patient must decide which methods are most appealing in order to be put into action.

Written Expression
Journaling is a creative, fulfilling, insightful and therapeutic activity. In 5 minutes a day, journaling can provide a constancy in an otherwise crazy world, and creates a permanent record of life events, the journal's author goals, dreams, and frustrations. In order for written expression to be effective, it is important that this task be done for at least 5 minutes a day. The entries can be reviewed monthly and the patient can review the entries and write about what lessons they have learned from their experiences.

Oral Expression
Oral expression can work very much in the same way written expression is applied and implemented as part of a self-awareness and stress reduction program. The person might keep an oral record on tape about life events for at least 5 minutes a day. Then again, once a month these recorded messages could be reviewed and the person could write down thoughts and feelings about the experiences and what was learned and what will be done with these findings.

Oral expression could also be used to keep a relationship flourishing. A person would spend five minutes each night talking to her spouse/partner about her day and her feelings. Her partner will then do the same. This oral exchange will keep them in touch with each other and will provide a constant format for expression. The importance with oral expression is again consistency and being content with the process.

We will conclude Implications for stress management and optimal wellness and the mind body communication series with summaries on support groups, entrainment music, and laughter.

Beste Gesundheit,

Werner
